Josh George
Sport: Wheelchair Basketball
Residence: Herndon, VA
George has been involved in wheelchair athletics since he was eight years old. His parents, who were looking to keep him active and involved after a spinal cord injury, found a sports program in nearby Baltimore where be became involved in racing, swimming and basketball. George says many athletic opportunities were presented to him as he gained experience athletically.
George currently attends the University of Illinois where is studying journalism. He also competes on his college wheelchair basketball team and racing team.
George is a member of the gold medal winning US Wheelchair Basketball Team at the Parapan American Games in 2007. George is a member of the 2006 silver medal winning IWBF Gold Cup (World Championships) in Amsterdam. Also in 2006, in wheelchair racing, George won four gold medals in the T53 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m and the silver medal in the T53-54 4x100m relay at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Assen, The Netherlands. George’s focus now is training in order to make the 2008 Paralympic wheelchair basketball team and compete at the Beijing Paralympic Games.
Working with U.S. Paralympics® founding sponsor, The Hartford, Josh is helping to raise public awareness of what people with a physical disability can achieve in all aspects of life.
