Gavin Cloy

Sport: Wheelchair Basketball
Residence: Atlanta, GA

After a train accident in 1996, Cloy lost both of his legs above the knee. Cloy soon learned about wheelchair basketball and in 1998, Cloy joined a wheelchair basketball team in Atlanta. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 2004 with a degree in physical education. He currently is an elementary school teacher in Roswell, GA. In his free time Cloy enjoys fishing.

Cloy is a member of the silver medal winning U.S. Wheelchair Basketball Team at the IWBF Gold Cup (World Championships) in Amsterdam in 2006. In 2004, Cloy was a member of the U.S. Paralympic Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team. Also in 2004, Cloy was the First Team-All American, University of Illinois. Cloy’s focus now is training in order to make the 2008 Paralympic wheelchair basketball team and compete at the Beijing Paralympic Games.

Working with U.S. Paralympics® founding sponsor, The Hartford, Gavin is helping to raise public awareness of what people with a physical disability can achieve in all aspects of life.
