Jason Bryn
Sport: Tandem Cycling
Residence: Tucson, Arizona
Jason is a former college basketball player who lost significant vision in his early 20s due to a hereditary eye disease. A four-time U.S. national champion, he has been a member of the U.S. Paralympic Cycling team since 2001. He placed in the top 10 in road cycling events at the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games.
Jason competes against able-bodied cyclists and wins many races, including four state championships and mass-start races such as the Tour of the Tucson Mountains . For Jason, a tandem bike and a sighted pilot is his equalizer. Without them he would not be able to cycle and compete. "On tandem I am just another cyclist out there to win a race. On the bike my blindness does not matter."
Formerly, Jason was a disability rights attorney. He is now a business and life coach. He continues to train in hopes of earning a spot on the 2008 U.S. Paralympic Cycling team and works with The Hartford, founding sponsor of U.S. Paralympics® , to help positively change public attitudes and perceptions about disability.
