Monica Bascio is a former world champion hand-cyclist who shifted her focus to cross country skiing when, after five years as a cyclist on the national team, her event was cut from the Paralympics. For disable cycling, she will be competing at Worlds in Switzerland in September 2006 and is looking forward to Bejing in 2008.

Bascio will also be competing in Nordic skiing and Biathalon this winter in the World cup. She will continue Nordic skiing and biathalon competitions through 2010 in Vancouver, Canada.

Monica is also an avid tennis player, mono (downhill) skier, and swimmer, as well as an occupational therapist.

Monica works with The Hartford, founding sponsor of U.S. Paralympics®, to help positively change public attitudes and perceptions about disability.
