The Paralympics Experience. For two days in Colorado Springs, CO, our business associates eat, work and compete side-by-side with some of the world's greatest Paralympians in games ranging from volleyball to skiing and cycling. They come away with a profound understanding of what it means to live with a disability while pursuing athletic and professional goals.
Ski Spectacular. The Hartford Ski Spectacular, held in Breckenridge, CO, is the nation's largest winter sports event for people with disabilities. Skiers of all ages participate, including wounded warriors from Great Britain and Canada as well as the U.S. While it's a competitive sports experience, it's also a therapeutic way to affirm the choice of an active, productive life in the face of physical limitations. We're very proud to be the title sponsor of this event for 16 years and counting.
Vancouver 2010. Next March 12, the Paralympics Winter Games will be held in Vancouver, Canada. Six-hundred-fifty of the world's best athletes with disabilities will compete in six venues: ice sledge hockey, wheelchair curling, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and biathlon. Tickets are still available, so you're in luck.
Golf Tournament. Held in Farmington, Connecticut, the GBD Golf Outing is one of our major fundraisers for USP. Employees and Paralympics athletes spend a day on the links competing. Many of the Paralympians also venture beyond the course for community outreach in schools, on the air and in business venues. In 2009, the tournament raised $16,400 for USP. That brings our five-year total to over $100,000.
